My Other Work Experience: Archant and National Centre For Writing

Archant LTD

My work experience with Archant was for the week commencing 16th March to 20th March. I went to my work experience on Monday the 16th and as I was early, I stayed by the shops for a while. I heard an announcement from Castle Quarter about washing your hands regularly, which was not there before the virus. I went to Archant earlier than nine-fifteen, and went to reception to tell them I was there. They called for the person who was in charge of me that day and I waited for him. He took me into the office, told me of their situation, with about half of the staff working from home, and I was seated at a computer. I was given a laptop which they use for all their work experience students and had to wait for their meeting. After the meeting, which was interesting, I was told to observe the shopping area and shops and report about how people were acting, if there was any signs about and what shops were missing from their shelves. I came back to the building and had to write up my thoughts on what was happening, like a news article. I finished this after lunch and then was told because of the virus I could no longer do my work experience and I shouldn't have really came up. I got upset about this news, but knew it was no one's fault. I hope to complete the work experience after everything settles down.

I can not use the article for evidence as it belongs to Archant and the pictures I took I also sent as well. I did however, take a small video of a wooden man playing with a drum kit in a shop window.

National Centre for Writing

I got an email on the 6th of February about a workshop at a primary school on the 26th March. After discussing it with my teacher, as it was on a Thursday, I replied and said I could help out. It got closer to the time and I got an email about who I would be working with and it asked the person to send me detail about what would happen on the day. On Monday 16th of March, after the work experience, I went to Dragon Hall to hand in my DBS form.I told the person I was emailing that I believed the workshop would unlikely go ahead and I got an email later that week saying the school cancelled because of social distancing and the virus. Lock-down started on the 23rd of March, and I am certain I wont be able to do any workshops before the course ends.
