Script Writing Development

Before the Course

Before the Level 4 Creative Enterprise Course I attempted to write a script. This script was a murder mystery, with the main character trying, and failing, to be the detective. The main character was also thought to be the main suspect of this murder by the other characters, and so had to figure out what happened before a certain time. I have yet to finish it.

I first wrote the script on drive, basing it on a format I developed after reading about how to tutorials.

After starting the course I found out about Celtx, a website that allows you to write a screenplay/script for free. I used it to help format my own script.

As this is my first script, it will need editing and improving over time.

During the Course, to help develop the script

During the script writing process, I decided to read a script to get additional guidance on how it looks and its format. The script I read was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. As I have seen the movie, I was able to imagine it in my mind. I only read the first few pages, as the task of writing the script was too important. I learnt that for a professional script, you do not need to add tone and stage actions after every piece of dialogue. This was useful as it showed I can just write the dialogue and the script will still be fine. I found reading scripts interesting.
