Jonnie Bayfield, 21st November 2019
On the 21st of November 2019, there was a guest speaker, Jonnie Bayfield, who came into the college. He specialized in script writing and creative writing. The talk was very engaging and informative. He mentioned how everything is a deviation of seven key story lines and that good stories are relatable. A piece of advice he gave was to get rid of binary thinking, a villain is bad to be bad, and think about the motivations behind the antagonist. The most interesting part of the day was the workshop that he offered. We had a chance at writing a two page script with the college as our inspiration. My group, of three students, used the builders on top of the roof as the inspiration. We had a character fall of the roof, to impress his friend, and have the friend run to get help. When she went back, he was back on the roof and she is left wondering whether she imagined what happened. The help, a teacher, will likely not believe her. After writing the scripts, the students attending the workshop had the chance to pitch their script to him. The other scripts were far better than the one my group had written. My group did not get a chance to pitch the script to Jonnie Bayfield as we had ran out of time, which is unfortunate as that would have helped my confidence with pitching my ideas.
